Starting from Zero: A True Blessing in Disguise

Life is unpredictable. Sometimes, it throws us into situations where we feel like we’re back at square one—whether it’s after the end of a happy marriage, a complicated relationship, losing a job, or facing a business failure. There are endless reasons why we might have to start from zero. But the most important thing to remember is that starting over is not a setback; it’s a gift.
Why Stay Where You’re Not Meant to Be?
We often hold onto things that no longer serve us—relationships that don’t bring us happiness, jobs where our efforts go unrecognized, or situations that keep us stuck. But why stay? Why settle for less than we deserve? If something no longer fulfills us, it’s a sign that we need to move to the next level.
And while it might feel like a never-ending cycle of ups and downs, if you take a step back, you’ll realize something powerful—you are never truly starting from the same point. Every time you start again, you’re stepping forward with more wisdom, strength, and experience than before.
Everything Happens for a Reason
It’s easy to question our decisions:
“Why did I choose this path?”
“What if I had taken another route?”
But in the end, every choice we make leads us to exactly where we are meant to be. The Midnight Library, a book that deeply resonated with me, explores this idea—no matter what choices we make, we always end up where we are supposed to be. Even if the path seems uncertain, it’s leading us somewhere meaningful.
There are moments when nothing seems to work out, when we feel stuck, lost, or exhausted. But a year from now, when you look back, you’ll understand why things happened the way they did. The struggles, the heartbreaks, the setbacks—they were all guiding you toward something better.
Lessons from the Past
I recently had a conversation with a friend about relationships and how we often believe that this is it, that we’ve found the one. A year or two ago, I was convinced I had met the person I would build a future with. But looking back, I now see that I was willing to settle for less than I deserved just to hold onto something familiar.
When that relationship ended, I was devastated, wondering how I would move forward. But life has a way of proving us wrong. Each relationship, each experience, shapes us into a better version of ourselves. Today, I am beyond grateful that I didn’t stay in those past relationships because they were never truly right for me.
And the same goes for my career. Before Lotta Beauty was even an idea, I was in Prague, considering a “safe” life—a stable job, a steady paycheck, a simple routine. But deep down, I knew I wanted more. I wanted freedom, creativity, and the chance to build something of my own. At times, I doubted myself, thinking I should settle down, give up on my entrepreneurial dreams, and choose security over passion.
But then, life pushed me forward. Even when relationships didn’t work out, even when I felt lost, I kept moving. And that led me to create Lotta Beauty, to take risks, and to believe in something bigger than myself.
Trust the Journey
Yes, it’s hard. Building something from zero, whether it’s a business, a new career, or a fresh start in life, takes courage. It’s exhausting, and sometimes it feels like nothing is working. But when we trust the process and take inspired action, the universe aligns in our favor.
So, the next time you feel like you’re starting over, take a moment to look back. See how far you’ve come. You’re not at the same zero you once were. Every experience has shaped you into someone wiser, stronger, and more prepared for what’s next.
Losing something—whether it’s a job, a relationship, or an opportunity—can feel painful. But in the end, it often turns out to be a blessing. Every ending is a new beginning.
